Whitney Smith is a strategic communications expert dedicated to helping leaders and organizations create opportunities and mitigate risks.
She previously served at the U.S. Department of State as Communications Director for the first ever Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John F. Kerry from 2021-2023. Before returning to the State Department, Smith was a senior manager at Boston Consulting Group from 2017-2021. Prior to BCG, Smith served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs and international spokesperson at the U.S. Department of the Treasury under Treasury Secretary Jacob J. Lew, Senior Advisor for Strategic Communications at the U.S. Department of State, and Press Secretary to U.S. Senator and Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman John F. Kerry. Smith holds a Masters in International Relations from the London School of Economics and a bachelors in History and Political Science from the University of Michigan.
Smith began consulting in 2023 and supports a range of clients across business, finance, tech, philanthropy, and climate and clean energy. She has 20 years’ experience supporting CEOs and senior leaders as well as helping small and large organizations elevate and safeguard their external presence and successfully navigate domestic and global challenges.
